This cute jellyfish crafts supports your child’s fine-motor, creative, language, and math development. Very simple with just a few materials and minimal set-up required.
You Will Need:
Paper plate (I used white but any will do)
Scissors
Paint or markers
Sharpie, marker or glue on eyes
Pipe cleaners or yarn
Beads
What to Do:
1) Cut the paper plate in half, use a wavy line to make it extra cute. Your child may be able to help with this if you use a thinner plate, good cutting practice.
2) Paint or color the back of the plate. Go to town! Encourage your child to get creative while naming colors and talking about pattern, texture, and color mixing.
3) Add a face. Draw or stick on eyes and a mouth. Ask your child what they thing the jellyfish needs for a face. Talk about the difference between real and pretend jellyfish. Consider looking at pictures of real jellyfish and drawn jellyfish.
4) Punch holes along the base of the paper plate and attach a pipe cleaner of piece of yarn to each hole. Depending on your child’s level of attention and counting skills you could add more or less holes.
5) Write numbers above each pipe cleaner. Again, adapt this for your child; a few numbers in order is easier. Adding more numbers, putting the numbers out of consecutive order, or using larger number will increase the challenge.
6) Finally, help your child to thread the correct number of beads onto the pipe cleaners. This is great for fine motor development and to practice counting.
