The Big Freeze
When it is hot outside, there is no better sensory play than ice! This activity is great for sensory, language, and science development.
Prepare by freezing some toys, shells, or sea creatures in bowls of water. Add food coloring but be aware that it may stain or discolor the items being frozen.
Sea shells in ice
Place the ice blocks in a shallow tray and provide scoopers, pipets, spoons for your child to experiment with melting the ice. Consider giving them baking soda, vinegar, salt, and water, and allowing them to explore which item helps the ice to melt more quickly.
These kiddos were very interested in tasting the salted ice!
As you child rescues the items talk to them about what they have found.
Encourage vocabulary development by discussing the texture, color, and feel of the ice.
